Using the meta refresh element to redirect
For rerouting pages on websites that do not support 301 and 302 redirection, the meta refresh element is helpful. With websites hosted by free web hosting companies, this is frequently the case. Even when HTML is the only redirection tool available, this technique can be employed.
In essence, the webmaster changes the head of the website at the old URL by adding a meta refresh element. The new URL to which the user will be redirected is contained in this meta refresh element, along with a counter for the number of seconds the browser should wait before requesting the new URL.
Your web server will provide a 301 HTTP status code with the new URL in the location field of the HTTP header when a browser or crawler requests an outdated webpage that has been 301 redirected. The 301 status code informs the browser that the old URL for the web page has been changed and is now accessible there. The browser or crawler will then ask the web server for the new URL, and the server should reply with the HTML for the new web page and a 200 status code to show that the new page was located.
The search engines will give credit to the new URL for all inbound links pointing to the old URL as soon as those links are crawled once more and the 301 redirect is discovered for each link because the 301 redirect signifies that the page that was previously located at the old URL has been moved permanently to the new URL. From an SEO standpoint, the fact that the new URL receives credit for outbound links to the old URL will help the new URL. It will help the new URL rank for keyphrases that the old website page may have done so for.Redirection Power is knowledge
Picking the appropriate redirection strategy for a specific circumstance should be made easier for you if you are aware of how these techniques operate and impact search engine rankings. Every technique is a valuable tool for any webmaster to have in their toolbox.
